Abstract

SUMMARY For the research, the general objective was to characterize the plant associations related to coffee production and three specific objectives, which were; define the existing association systems, describe the agronomic management, define the cost benefit of the existing associations in the production of coffee in the El Parraxé farm, Samayac Suchitepéquez To achieve the fulfillment of the objectives, field data collection, interviews, and information gathering from the office were carried out, and immersion in the field was essential to obtain the results presented in this report. Seven coffee - grass - forest associations were determined and their three modalities (Var. Caturra and Catimor with distances of 0.90 m and 1.10 m in combination with Brachiaria brizantha "Brizhanta" grass and T. donnell smithii "Palo blanco", E. globulus "Eucalyptus”, A. fraxinifolius “Mundani”) and brown - forest with four modalities (Var. Caturra and Catimor with distance 0.90, 1 and 1.10 m in combination with T. donnell smithii “Palo blanco”, E. globulus “Eucalipto”, A fraxinifolius "Mundani"). Regarding the agronomic management of the associations in the coffee production; They were in fertilization, clean by hand, pest control, clean with herbicides, maintenance and harvest of the years 2012 - 2018 with their respective cost of each agronomic activity. In the coffee-pasture system a negative B/C ratio of 0.80 was obtained, a minimum of 1.36 and a maximum of 2.68, in the coffee-forest system a negative B / C ratio of 0.88 was obtained, a minimum of 1.43 and a maximum of 2.89, taking into account that partnership systems generate economic income and positive benefits to the farm.
