Abstract

SUMMARY In Granja Zahorí, Cuyotenango, Suchitepéquez, the experiment was carried out on Capsicum annuum L chile bell pepper, taking into account that Marli R and Nathalie f1 hybrids are recommended for this zone. In addition, to improve yield and fruit quality, the application of AG3 gibberellins is recommended, so the following doses were used: 0 gr/ha, 2 gr/ha and 4 gr/ha, with the purpose of induction and fruit setting, being reflected in the yield and final quality of the product. A randomized complete block design was used, with a split plot arrangement, due to field conditions, with 12 treatments and four replications, for a total of 48 experimental units. According to the analysis of variance, the use of gibberellic acid did not influence any of the response variables evaluated, since there was no significant difference in this factor. As for the use of two hybrids, it was determined through the analysis of variance that in this factor there is a significant difference, being the hybrid Marlie R significantly better than the hybrid Nathalie F1, on the evaluated response variables yield in kg/ha (8844.09 Kg/ha), fruit growth length (111.46 mm) and fruits per plant (7 fruits per plant on average). According to the economic analysis on production costs of each treatment, T2 (Marlie R hybrid and 0 gr of AG3) is the most profitable of all treatments with a profitability index of 43.91% and a total production profit of Q 20,507.02 per hectare in relation to the total production cost of Q 45,108.55/ha. It is necessary to use fungicides for the establishment of chili peppers in the open air, due to the fact that from September to October in this zone there is constant rainfall, which provides a suitable environment for the proliferation of fungi and diseases.
