Abstract

SUMMARY The Santa María farm in the municipality of Colomba Costa Cuca, Quetzaltenango, has 261.47 hectares of Macadamia integrifolia Maiden & Betche "macadamia"; The main problem facing the unit is the presence of the pest Ecdytolopha torticornis "walnut borer" due to its high infestation in recent years, directly attacking the tender and ripe fruits. The attack of this pest causes a decline in the fruit harvest due to perforation, this is due to the larval stage that feeds on the nut until it reaches the almond or kernel, leaving excrement on the epicarp, such as sawdust, evidencing the presence of said pest. plague. To solve this problem, the evaluation of eight chemical insecticides for the control of Ecdytolopha torticornis "walnut borer" in the Macadamia integrifolia crop was planned; working based on a completely randomized block experimental design with nine treatments and three repetitions to determine which chemical insecticide presents greater efficiency for the control of infestation and damage to the endocarp. The treatments that show better control against the pest are: T3 with a granular commercial presentation, followed by T7 with a liquid commercial presentation, both with the active ingredient Enamectin Benzoate, due to the fact that this molecule acts in the intestine, causing the larva to When feeding suffers intestinal damage, paralysis and therefore death, this product presents an infestation of 16% and an efficacy of 44.2%; Similarly, T2 (relative control) with Chlorpyrifos and T4 with Cypermethrin + Chlorpyrifos with 17% and 18.1% infestation and both products with 42.12% efficacy, acting in a similar way on the nervous system of the larva that causes it. death
