Abstract
SUMMARY The evaluation presented the cultivation of Zea mays L. "Maize" was carried out at Zahorí Farm, Cuyotenango, Suchitepéquez. The study focused on comparing the development and yield of the two most commonly used materials in the area (HB83 and DK 410) in contrast to a biofortified material (ICTA B15), with the aim of introducing a new variety with high nutritional content. This, in addition to varying planting distances (0.70 m*0.40 m, 0.52 m*0.40 m, and 0.80m*0.50m). The purpose of the study is to provide information that contributes to increasing crop yield per area. Based on the aforementioned factors and their different levels, a randomized complete block design with a split-plot arrangement was employed due to the terrain conditions. Corn materials constituted the main plot, while the planting distances formed the sub-plot, resulting in nine treatments and four replications, totaling 36 experimental units. According to the performed analysis of variance, there was no significant difference for the variable of yield in Kg/ha. However, significant differences were observed for the yield component variables, specifically in the number of rows per cob. The treatments T9 with DK-410 material and a spacing of 0.80 m x 0.5 m, T3 with ICTA-B15 material and a spacing of 0.80 m x 0.50 m, T1 with ICTA B-15 material and a spacing of 0.70 m x 0.40 m, and T8 with DK-410 material and a spacing of 0.52 m x 0.40 m were identified as the most favorable in terms of the interaction of factors. Additionally, there were significant differences in the number of grains per row, with HB 83 showing the highest number, followed by DK410, and lastly, ICTA B15. Significant differences were determined among the evaluated treatments in growth variables, with the following findings: Stem diameter: ICTA had the largest diameter, followed by B15 and DK410, respectively.
