Abstract
SUMMARY In order to look for alternatives that help to achieve the quality standards of fruit, we proceeded to evaluate methods of desmane (elimination of lower hands of the bunch that will not give fruits with good length and thickness of quality for export) in the cultivation of M. x paradisiaca, in Palo Blanco farm, La Gomera, Escuintla, In which the variables of length and final size (thickness) of the fruit, weight of first fruit in kg., percentage of utilization and the conversion factor of bunches were studied. The evaluation was carried out through an experimental design in randomized blocks (DBA), with six treatments and four replications of 15 clusters for each experimental unit. To establish the experiment in the field, twelve cables (pantes) were selected, in which the four blocks were distributed, these cables were selected for their homogeneity in the factors of soil, irrigation, agronomic management, among others. Subsequently, the different methods of dismantling each treatment under study were carried out, each cluster was marked and numbered in order to be able to follow up on the weekly measurements that were carried out in the following ten weeks, the variables that were measured were: caliber in (m) and length in (m). When they reached commercial maturity, the bunches were harvested by treatment, then they were transported to the packing plant, where to obtain the data, all the bunches under study were profiled and evaluated, obtaining the results. It was determined that the treatment with the best results was treatment three, with an average weight of 30.05 kg equivalent to 66.25 lb, a conversion factor of 1.63% bunches/boxes and a utilization of 79% of the harvested bunch, in addition to reaching a caliber of 41 degrees and a length of 0.20 m (8.2") of fruit. required for export within a time period of 91 days. The practice of desmane does influence the use of fruit from the bunches and the increase in the production of boxes of fruit for export. Since it increased the weight of the fruit by 3.78 kg (8.53 lb), obtaining a better conversion factor of 1.63 and a utilization of 79% of the fruit per harvested bunch over the relative control treatment.
