Abstract

Abstract The research was conducted with the support of the Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Association (ARCAS), co-administrator of the Multiple Use Area Hawaii, and the National Forest Institute (INAB). It was developed in the Multiple Use Area Hawaii (AUMH) located in the municipality of Chiquimulilla, Santa Rosa; with the objective of evaluating priority areas for mangrove restoration in the AUMH. Specific objectives were established that allowed the identification of different geospatial zones. Which helped characterize according to the ecological conditions and health parameters of the mangrove as well as determine the type of damage of the areas. Therefore, created a restoration plan and practices to keep the area protected. Initially, a map was generated in the free software QGIS of the degraded areas of the year 2020 with emphasis on the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), which allowed differentiating the vegetation into four categories of vegetation cover of the soil. Subsequently, field verifications were carried out to corroborate the geospatial information obtained. Tours were then carried out inside the mangrove forest to help identify the degradation in situ. The areas characterized with biological and morphological indicators where the mangrove ecosystem was established. Within those principles are the hydro period, structure of the forest and dasometric information. An analysis was carried out allowing the determination of the type of degradation of each area was carried out with the data collected in the field, based on the above, restoration actions and practices were proposed considering the criteria, conditions of the areas and common characteristics.
