Abstract

ABSTRACT The main objective of this research was to evaluate three varieties and a Creole cultivar of Phaseolus vulgaris L. Fabaceae “bean”, in the San José community, in the municipality of San Lorenzo, Suchitepéquez. Having yield (kg/ha), days to flowering and days to harvest as response variables, a profitability analysis of each of the treatments was also carried out. The experiment was established in one of the plots of the San Lorenzo Community, during the dry season, in the months of December 2022 to March 2023, so it was necessary to carry out furrow irrigation. A complete randomized block design was used, where three bean varieties from the Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology -ICTA- and a native vara cultivar were evaluated. These varieties and the cultivar constituted the evaluated treatments. Among the main results, it was determined that, according to the analysis of variance, the bean varieties that produced the highest yields were ICTA Chortí and ICTA Ligero, with yields of 756.0 and 634.8 kg/ha, both treatments being statistically equal. The profitability analysis indicates that of these two treatments, the one that produced the highest profitability was the ICTA Chortí variety, with a 42.28% profitability. Regarding the flowering variables, the ICTA Ligero variety is the earliest, with 29 days to flowering and 64 days to harvest, this variety produces a profitability of 19.47%. The ICTA Chortí variety ranked second in terms of precocity, with 33 days to flowering and 73 days to harvest and with a profitability of 42.28%.
