Abstract

SUMMARY The main objective of the research was to evaluate the effect of four control methods for the thrips pest Frankliniella spp. On the Panama farm, Santa Bárbara, Suchitepéquez, a complete randomized block design was used with four treatments and five repetitions, for a total of 20 experimental units, where a chemical control method was evaluated in treatment one, applying the insecticide Karate Zion. of active ingredient (Lambdacyhalothrin), alternated with Abamectin 18 EC (Abamectin); treatment two, a biological control applying the entomopathogenic fungus Beuaveria bassiana and the bacteria Bacillus thuringiensis; Treatment three was an organic control by applying insecticides based on garlic Allium sativum, chili Capsicum annuum, onion Allium cepa and neem Azadirachta indica and finally treatment four was the combination of biological control with an ethological control by placing blue chromatic traps. . The response variables were the percentage of thrips control, percentage of fruits damaged by thrips and yield in kilograms per hectare in each of the mangosteen fruit qualities. According to the results obtained, the best control percentages were presented by T1 chemical control, this in applications 1 and 3 resulting in 51.6% and 62.7% control, while in application 2 it shared being one of the best with T4 the combination of ethological and biological control and with T2, biological control. Regarding the variable response percentage of damaged fruits, the chemical control T1 presented 12%, this being the lowest and therefore the best. For the variable effect of yield on fruit quality, the treatments T2 biological control, T1 chemical control and T3 organic control presented better means in the first quality, in the second quality the best were 1147.24 kg/ha T1 chemical control and T2 biological control 1091.84 kg/ha, in the third grade fruits, the best were T1 chemical control with 794.71 kg/ha and T2 biological control with 596.47 kg/ha and in the last fourth grade quality as in the first grade fruits The best were T1 chemical control 466.84 kg/ha, T2 biological 373.47 kg/ha and T3 organic 353.05 kg/ha.
