Abstract

SUMMARY The present investigation was carried out with the objective of collecting and pomologically characterizing the fruit of the Persea Americana Mill avocado, in the Taracena Santo Domingo canton, Suchitepéquez. To achieve this, avocado fruits were collected from 20 avocado trees in the backyard of the local inhabitants' homes, followed by marking the points on a map where the sampled trees are located in a Zigzag shape; Interviews were conducted with members of the COCODE (Community Development Council) and inhabitants regarding the use of the avocado harvest. A sensory analysis of the collected materials was also carried out, to also determine if there are possible groups of avocado that occur in the Taracena canton. The results demonstrate that through the cluster analysis it was possible to form large groups of P. Americana avocado and through the analysis of the organoleptic characteristics; As a result, collection number 12 was obtained, which is the one that is accepted in terms of flavor, color and texture for consumption and marketing.
