Abstract

SUMMARY The objective was to evaluate the plant Azolla spp. as a supplement to conventional feeding in Creole chickens in the community of Santa María el Tablón in the municipality of Sololá. Among the specific objectives were: the characterization of the Azolla spp plant, the identification and geographical distribution of the Azolla spp plant, evaluation of proportions of corn, concentrate and Azolla spp as a nutritional supplement in native birds and projecting profitability in the weight gain of Creole birds. It focused on generating information about the species as well as a study on weight gain in poultry, to obtain possible alternatives in food for farm animals (Criollo chickens), a morphological determination of the plant was carried out, such as also a bromatological study, in order to know the quality of the food and the nutritional components that are part of the plant. The weight gain phase of native birds lasted 8 weeks, with a completely randomized design, with four treatments and an absolute control in which proportions of food were used across five treatments T1 = (40% azolla + 60% (corn + balanced 3:1)), T2 = (30% azolla + 70% (corn + balanced 3:1)), T3 = (20% azolla + 80% (corn + balanced 3 :1)), T4 = (corn +balanced (3:1)) and T5 = corn (control) The species Azolla spp. It was identified as Azolla filiculoides L. Also within the georeferencing the species was located in two communities, Muelle municipal de San Lucas Tolimán and in Quixayá de San Lucas Tolimán. In the bromatological analysis of the species Azolla filiculoides L., the following results were obtained: 18.23% crude fiber, 11.71% protein, 0.43% calcium and 0.19% phosphorus.
