Abstract

Summary In the present investigation, four chemical insecticides were evaluated, these being: Clothianidin (Tempus 50 WG) at a dose of: 0.30 kg/ha, Flupyradifurone (Sivanto Prime 20 SL) at 1 lt/ha, Cyantraniliprole (Verimark 20 SC) at 500 cc/ha, and Ethiprole + Imidacloprid (Curbix Plus 20 SC) at 2 lt/ha, all in a single application on the La Bendiciones Nueva Concepción farm, jurisdiction of the department of Escuintla, administration of production zone 4 of the Madre Tierra Sugar Mill. It was determined that Clothianidin (Tempus 50 WG) at a dose of: 0.30 kg/ha with 100% effectiveness, and Flupyradifurone (Sivanto Prime 20 SL) at 1 lt/ha with 100% effectiveness are the most effective, the Ethiprole + Imidacloprid (Curbix Plus 20 SC) at 2 lt/ha with 91% and Cyantraniliprole (Verimark 20 SL) at 500 cc/ha with 50% effectiveness in nymphs per stem. In the application cost analysis, it was determined that the most economical product was Clothianidin (Tempus 50 WG) with an application cost of Q134.28 per hectare, followed by Ethiprole+Imidacloprid (Curbix Plus 20 SC) with Q592.29. per hectare; thirdly, Flupyradifurone (Sivanto Prime 20 SL) with an application cost of Q882.75 per hectare, and finally the insecticide with the highest cost was Cyantraniliprole (Verimark 20 SL) with Q1,653.45 per hectare. Additionally, the importance of the research was to determine which insecticide provided control below the economic damage level of 0.05-0.10 nymphs and adults per stem and which represented the lowest economic cost for pest control.
