Abstract

ABSTRACT The objective of the research was to evaluate the recyclable and non-recyclable waste treatment system of the municipality of San Lucas Tolimán, Sololá, in order to achieve it, the diagnosis of the current system was developed, based on three main axes: generation, management and administration. In the axis of generation, a survey was made to know the point of view of the population. We proceeded to characterize the recyclable and non-recyclable waste generated in the municipality, for this three were taken into account: domiciliary, street sweeping and market. For the characterization, a sample was selected through the simple random probabilistic method, 256 homes shown, in the market and streets of the urban area. The total production peer week was determinate to be 10,604.32 kg of recyclable and non-recyclable waste with a daily production of 1,514.90 kg/day. 59.66% of the waste is organic, 34.61% is inorganic non-recoverable and 5.73% is inorganic recoverable. RESUMEN La investigación tuvo como objetivo evaluar el sistema de tratamiento de los residuos y desechos sólidos del municipio de San Lucas Tolimán, Sololá, para alcanzarlo se desarrolló el diagnóstico del sistema actual, con base en tres ejes principales: generación, manejo y administración. En el eje de generación, se hizo una encuesta para conocer el punto de vista de la población. Se procedió a caracterizar los residuos y desechos sólidos generados en el municipio, para esto se tomaron en cuenta tres estratos: domiciliar, barrido de calles y mercado. Para la caracterización se seleccionó la muestra a través del método probabilístico aleatorio simple, se muestrearon 256 viviendas, el mercado y las calles del casco urbano. Se determinó que la producción total por semana es de 10,604.32 kilogramos de residuos y desechos sólidos con una producción diaria de 1,514.90 kg/día. El 59.66% de los desechos son orgánicos, el 34.61% son inorgánicos no recuperables y el 5.73% son inorgánicos recuperables. En el eje de manejo, se evaluó la ruta de recolección y el manejo de cada una de las partes con las que cuenta la planta de tratamiento de residuos y desechos sólidos. Debido a que la planta de tratamiento de residuos y desechos sólidos se encuentra colapsada, la municipalidad por recomendación de la Autoridad para el Manejo Sustentable de la Cuenca del Lago de Atitlán y su Entorno (AMSCLAE) la clausurará, y habilitarán una nueva área para el relleno sanitario. Se liberará la plancha de cemento que actualmente está siendo utilizada como relleno sanitario y sobre esta se realizará el proceso de producción de compost a cielo abierto.
