Abstract

ABSTRACT This research was carried out in the municipality of San Pedro La Laguna, Sololá, as an opportunity for improvement to reduce the consumption of electricity, within the municipal building facilities. It had the general objective: to evaluate energy efficiency in the municipal building. Being the specific objectives: the characterization of the lighting systems and equipment, likewise, to estimate the emissions of carbon dioxide, generating a manual for the integrated management of electrical energy. The activities carried out to achieve the objectives included an inventory of electronic equipment and lamps within the municipal building defined as the object of study. Based on the established energy consumption, the amount of carbon dioxide emitted in tons of carbon dioxide per kilowatt per month was calculated, using the methodology proposed by the Guatemalan Center for Cleaner Production. The results obtained show that the municipal building has 90 LED technology lamps and 137 electronic equipment, which generate an energy consumption of 1,849 kilowatts per month, emitting 23,71776 tons of carbon dioxide annually. A proposal for the implementation of improvements in the use of electrical energy was written; identifying the areas of intervention, proposing a renewal of electronic equipment for the areas with the highest energy consumption of the municipal building, these being: Municipal Environmental Management Department, Municipal Treasury and Municipal Secretary. The Control and Monitoring area currently has an energy consumption of 42%, referring to the total consumption of the municipal building, therefore it is necessary to separate this area from the central energy supply of the building, placing its own cutter. Therefore, the recommendation arises to implement solar panels for to supply electricity this area. By applying the established proposal, an economic saving of 92% would be obtained, significantly reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 60%, with a simple return on investment period of two years.
