Abstract

ABSTRACT The present investigation was carried out at the Las Margaritas farm located in San Francisco Zapotitlán, Suchitepéquez, which consists in evaluating two methods of releasing the Trichogramma exiguum parasitoid for the control of the macadamia nut borer Ecdytolopha torticonis. For the investigation three hectares of macadamia will be used in production of the Zapote sector, where each hectare was a treatment; The treatments evaluated were: T1 (release manual) where the dose was in a plastic container containing within 100,000 Trichogramma notices in an adult state; T2 (drone release) the dose was 100,000 lepidopteran eggs parasitized by Trichogrammas and T3 (absolute control) without parasitoid release. Due to the problem that exists in the farm of not knowing which of the two methods of release was more efficient and of lower cost, the decision would be taken to evaluate the two methods of release, which were measured with the percentage of parasitism of eggs of the nut borer. The cost of each treatment was also calculated. The results obtained for the parasitism days response variable, which was performed under controlled conditions in entomological cases was 84% parasitism at 16 days, being greater than 45% obtained after eight days after the release of parasitoids. For this reason, data collection for the following variables was performed 16 days after the release of Trichogramma exiguum. As for the parasitism of eggs of the nut borer there are no differences of differences, in the manual release 76.72% of parasitism of eggs in the field was obtained and with the drone release 75% of parasitism. Both methods identified a variation of 1.22% which is not statistically significant. The manual release method had a cost of Q156.12 per hectare; while the method the drone release cost was Q158.00 per hectare. The climatic conditions that maintained the day of the release were a humidity percentage of 54%, a loss of 30 mm and the maximum temperature of 22 ° C the minimum of 17 ° C.
