Abstract

ABSTRACT The research was carried out with a sample of students from different careers from the central campus and metropolitan university center of the University of San Carlos de Guatemala - USAC-. The research focused on the emotional effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the psychic stability of university students. The working hypothesis that indicated that the psychosis caused by the danger of contagion from the COVID-19 pandemic emotionally affected the psychic stability of the university student was verified. The study confirmed that the university students experienced different symptoms of anxiety, stress and depression, derived to the quarantine, isolation, distancing and confinement decreed to avoid the spread of COVID-19. The study was carried out under the qualitative research approach, using the techniques of document review, therapeutic observation, anamnesis (structured interview guide), application of psychometric tests and focus group. Psychological alterations were detected in the university students derived from social distancing and the monitoring of their studies by virtual means.
