Abstract

ABSTRACT The execution of the research entitled "Evaluation of biological and chemical stimulants to accelerate the decomposition process of organic waste", was carried out with the main objective of identifying a product that accelerates the decomposition of organic waste, produced with materials from the municipal market. from Santa María Chiquimula, in the department of Totonicapán; the experiment was made from the use of biological and chemical products. The work was carried out in the facilities of the Popol Já farm, located 1.3 kilometers from the center of this municipality. Two biological products were used in the evaluation of stimulants; the first efficient microorganisms (EM); made up of yeasts, lactic acid bacteria and photosynthetic bacteria, made naturally from a culture of microorganisms using leaves, fallen materials from trees, molasses and water, the second was Bioterre, made by the BioGanar industry, and as a chemical product used urea. A control treatment was installed where no product was used, to compare it with the others during the evaluation. 1,600 pounds of organic waste (fruit peels, vegetables, leaves, and paper) were used, from sales at the municipal market. The total experimental area was 123.5 square meters, comprised of 13 meters wide by 9.5 meters long. The design that was used was completely randomized blocks, with four treatments and four repetitions, obtaining 16 treatments in the area. The treatments evaluated were: a) Efficient microorganisms, c) Bioterre, c) Urea and d) Witness (only organic waste without product application). The evaluation variables were: decomposition period, final weight, temperature, humidity, pH and costs per decomposition process. The analysis was carried out using ANDEVA which indicated that the ideal treatment was 66 days, corresponding to the efficient microorganisms depending on the decomposition period. The results of this research can be useful for decision-making at the municipal level, regarding the issue of solid waste and at the same time the production of organic fertilizer in the shortest possible time.Compostaje,
