ABSTRACT Before the arrival of the pandemic in Guatemala, an emergency resort was made to implement distance education, and particularly online teaching. This educational model faced a series of challenges and operational difficulties, among which the virtual illiteracy of teachers and students stands out. The research tried to demonstrate the level of knowledge and skills of teachers for the use of information and communication technologies in the development of their distance teaching work. since they were used to working with the faceto-face model. Although it is true that virtual illiteracy was evident in the first months of the pandemic, as the need to teach online arose, teachers and students trained independently to the extent that at the end of the health emergency; Teachers now have better knowledge and skills to manage and implement digital technology, as a didactic technical complement to face-to-face teaching that will return to schools in the 2023 school year. Teachers are no longer virtual illiterates and have become immigrants’ virtual condition that should be used in schools to modernize face-to-face teaching
