Abstract

ABSTRACT The research was carried out in five primary schools in the municipality of San Felipe, department of Retalhuleu. It was a qualitative study, which used the techniques of document review, participant observation, in-depth interviews and the collection of testimonial anecdotes from teachers and students about the didactic strategies implemented for the teaching of reading and writing during the three school cycles in which the Covid 19 pandemic lasted contrasted with the mastery of reading and writing of children who are in the third grade of primary school. The study showed that the closure of schools and the implementation of non-face-to-face classes affected the learning process of reading and writing in children, who in 2022 attended the third grade of primary school with serious reading and writing deficiencies. Activities are currently being carried out to reinforce reading and writing for children in the third grade. All this expresses that the mastery of reading and writing in third grade children is deficient.
