Abstract

Abstract The aim of this research was to establish the guidelines for the quality monitoring system of water for human consumption distributed in an agricultural educational institution in Guatemala, where the water resource is essential for the development of its academic and productive activities. It focused on the evaluation of the physical, chemical and microbiological characteristics of water for human consumption according to the indications of the Guatemalan technical standard COGUANOR NTG 29001, the identification of possible causes of contamination and finally, as a result, a monitoring plan was generated of water quality. With the information obtained, it was established that the main source of water supply for human consumption is groundwater, made up of four wells, of which "Well No.1" and "Well No.2" are responsible for supplying the storage tank, which distributes consumption points (filters and taps). The results of the analysis of the water characteristics indicate that there is a presence of microbiological contamination (total coliforms and Escherichia coli) and cadmium in the water for consumption distribution network.
