Abstract

SUMMARY Adaptation to climate change is a difficult subject to highlight, but in this specific case, the Nahualá basin was taken as a delimitation of the planning, execution and evaluation of activities to achieve adaptation, so in the year 2012-2013 implements the project "Towards a production of corn and beans adapted to climate variability and change: adaptation practices for climate threats in Guatemala" carried out in eight villages located around the village of Tzamjuyup, Nahualá, Sololá. This project was left unfinished due to the lack of follow-up evaluations and therefore the importance of this study on the impact reached in the social and economic scope at basin level and families that are part of the study area. Geographically, the hamlets under study are characterized by being in hillside areas where they were initially trained on the following practices: sloping bench terraces, live barriers, dead barriers, level curves and stubble management. For the research, three objectives were proposed; 1) Evaluate the adoption of agricultural technology in the beneficiaries of the 2013 project in soil conservation, 2) identify the impact at the level of family units of the population directly or indirectly involved in soil conservation, 3) determine the mass of soil eroded within lands with and without soil conservation practices. The methodology used two types of surveys, one applied for direct beneficiaries and another for indirect beneficiaries to the project in question, the analysis of the information was made through the SPSS program and Infostat, for the interpretation graphs and tables were used. The results obtained are; a) acceptable practices with opportunities for improvement (0.75 - 1): stubble management, dead barriers and live barriers, b) in the average adoption index with attrition alert (0.5- 0.75) level curves. The impact of the transfer of agricultural technology promoted by the ICC has reached 8.16% of the indirect population under study. An increase of 4.15 ha was quantified in relation to those quantified in 2013 of 0.48 ha.
