Abstract

SUMMARY The objective of this research was to conduct an agroeconomic evaluation of three improved varieties of Zea mays L. Poaceae (maize) and to determine which of them provided the highest yield in kilograms per hectare (kg/ha) in the Agrarian Multicultural Community of San Vicente, located in the municipality of Champerico, Retalhuleu. To carry out the study, a randomized block experimental design was used, in which three maize varieties were evaluated: DK-390, Pioneer P3966W, and Valle Verde JC-24. The results showed that the DK-390 variety performed best, with a yield of 3,677.62 kg/ha and a positive profitability, outperforming the other two varieties. In second place was Pioneer P3966W, with a yield of 3,551.6 kg/ha, also showing positive profitability. Both varieties stood out for their favorable performance in terms of production components. In contrast, Valle Verde JC-24 recorded the lowest performance in terms of production components, plant growth, and yield, achieving 3,043.68 kg/ha and resulting in negative profitability. The
