Abstract

This research was developed in the National Institute of Experimental Secondary Education "Julio César Méndez Montenegro" afternoon session of the city of Mazatenango, Suchitepéquez, through observation and coexistence with students and teachers of the different occupational areas that work in the establishment. The pedagogical model of occupational education that is implemented in said institute has undergone changes that do not conform to the fulfillment of the original occupational training objectives, tending to make the adolescent discover their capacities and vocations to choose a profession in accordance with these and thus, have a more productive insertion in the labor market. Secondary education throughout the history of Guatemalan education has undergone a series of changes that have impacted on the stagnation of these occupationally oriented educational centers, to the extent that they have largely distanced themselves from their objective of technical training of the student when having problems of deterioration of the workshops, lack of tools, supplies, resources and practical learning materials in the occupational areas and subareas. There is also little provision of specialized teachers in the different technical areas, which directly affects the quality of training for young people. The conditions in which the establishments are presently favor a low quality in the academic occupational training of the students because the original pedagogical model has deteriorated after forty-five years of operation
