Abstract

Abstract The La Ladrillera sector is located one kilometer from the urban center of the municipality of Santo Domingo Suchitepéquez, in the department of Suchitepéquez. The territory has an area of 356,072 square meters (m2), its population is 123 inhabitants and it is led by the Community Development Council -COCODE-. It is located 200 meters above sea level, with an average temperature of 25 degrees Celsius (°C) and an average annual rainfall of 3299 millimeters (mm). Within the sector there are no industries or business that generate chemical pollutants, they only generate domestic water, so only the analyses of Biochemical Oxygen Demand -BOD- and fecal coliforms were carried out. The study was conducted with the objective of evaluating the disposal of wastewater based on the concentration of biochemical oxygen demand and fecal coliforms in wastewater from the La Ladrillera sector. The information was obtained through consultations with secondary information sources, interviews with the inhabitants of the sector and field visits. In addition, the possible site for the construction of the wastewater treatment plant was selected. The results in comparison to Government Agreement 236-2006 and its amendment The results in comparison to Government Agreement 236-2006 and its amendment 58-2019 confirmed the excess of both parameters in wastewater. In addition, it was found that more than 50% of the population discharges wastewater on their land near their homes, causing environmental and social problems. It was found that 19.68 cubic meters per day (m3/d) of domestic wastewater are generated in the sector; with BOD concentrations of 102 milligrams per liter of oxygen (mg/L- O2) and fecal coliform concentrations of 120 most probable number per 100 milliliters (NMP/100ml). Based on the results and the location of the homes, a sketch was made showing the distribution of the pipes when executing a possible public drainage construction project and a proposal for a Grey Water Treatment Plant - PTAG -.
