Abstract

ABSTRACT HANDLING OF COMMERCIAL SOLID WASTE AND WASTE OF THE URBAN HULL OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF SAMAYAC, SUCHITEPÉQUEZ. The municipality of Samayac in the department of Suchitepéquez, has a territorial extension of 16 km2; is located 158 kilometers from the capital city and 7 km from the municipal seat of Mazatenango, is located at 627 meters above sea level, has 23,670 inhabitants with a density per square kilometer of 1,479 people, the municipality is organized by 23 places towns, one of them is the municipal head that has four cantons: Santo Domingo canton, Calvario canton, Concepción canton, San Antonio canton and a Calvary lotification. It is the urban center that represents the target population in the present investigation since there is the largest number of commercial establishments. In the municipality works the Municipal Environmental Management Unit -UGAM- which provided the opportunity to carry out the Supervised Professional Exercise (EPSIGAL). Initially, the environmental diagnosis of the municipality was made, which allowed identifying the main existing environmental problems, being one of the most important the contamination by waste and solid waste, detecting as a result ten unauthorized garbage dumps. To diagnose the current situation of waste management and commercial solid waste in the urban area of Samayac, Suchitepéquez, interviews were made with the municipal receiver and the total number of workers in the municipal cleaning and cleaning train, which determined that the The cost of the service is arbitrary and without any technical basis to determine it, likewise the resources of the collection system and the existence of two vehicles for service were established; one of them takes the route of homes, shops and schools and the other is responsible for collecting municipal public waste (waste from streets, market and central park), the solid waste and collected waste are deposited in the Valdivia farm located in the municipality of San Pablo Jocopilas. There is no defined route for the municipal toilet train route, but it was identified that there are excluded businesses on the toilet train route and consequently deposit their waste in an area behind the municipal market and each bag of garbage has a cost according to His weight.
