Abstract

The study on the relevance of the assessment tools and the teaching practice implemented by the teachers was carried out at the National Night School of Commercial Sciences of Mazatenango Suchitepéquez, an establishment that currently serves 195 students ranging from 14 to 30 years of age. The non-participatory observation carried out during the researcher's immersion in the context of said school allowed her to study the relevance between the applied evaluation tools and the teaching practice that they implement in the teaching of their classes. To carry out the investigation with the actors of the problem, members of the teaching staff were interviewed through the electronic means of Google Driver. It was concluded that teachers apply the method with a constructivist approach, promoting meaningful or active learning by using previous knowledge, and the work experience of students at the time of teaching their courses, they use diagnostic evaluation, and then establish new knowledge, for means of exercising and applying the learning. Regarding the evaluation tools, they use the portfolio, the preparation of essays, exhibitions, debates, round tables, and parallel texts. The professors interviewed agree that it is important to provide the necessary space for students to develop their skills and express their learning achieved effectively, which is why they implement the assessment tools identified in this research.
