Abstract

Abstract Emotional intelligence is a topic that is rarely addressed and applied, especially when it detracts from cognitive intelligence. Emotions affect all human beings, however, not all have the ability to handle them, especially in the adolescence stage that is mostly experienced during the High School. And as result of the lack of guidance at this crucial stage, young people express their emotions by reacting aggressively. The importance of emotional intelligence is evidenced by providing the youth with the ability to know their emotions, understanding and accepting them, it also allow them to facilitate emotional self-regulation, empathy, motivation and therefore social skills. Since aggressive behaviors are the consequence of the mismanagement of emotions and feelings, teacher’s participation and intervention becomes indispensable for the improvement of the situation that the student population from Instituto Nacional de Educación Básica, Jornada vespertina Cantón Samalá, San Sebastián, Retalhuleu presents. Thanks to the influence that the educator exerts on his students, it is also a factor that has a gradual work to promote in the adolescents the correct management and understanding of their emotions and in this way avoid future problems that are related to the aggressive reactions that can be present.
