Abstract
ABSTRACT The research studied the current situation of reading comprehension of students in the first grade of basic education of the National Institute of Basic Education of Telesecundaria of San Bernardino Suchitepéquez, with the objective of diagnosing their reading comprehension speed; since these students come from the school cycles in which teaching was taught remotely during the three years that the Covid 19 Pandemic lasted. To collect the information, a quasi-experiment of comprehensive reading speed measured in two periods of time was designed. time, which was evaluated by a questionnaire weighing efficiency and effectiveness. The study accepted the null hypothesis that indicated that: the longer reading time, the lower the efficiency and effectiveness of reading comprehension; since the Chi square test reported an indicator of 1.1104, which is lower than the Chi square value of the standardized table, which was 3.8415, which concluded that the level of reading comprehension speed is inefficient and ineffective. With the previous result, it was proven that the distance classes implemented as biosafety measures during the three annual school cycles that the Covid 19 pandemic lasted, left as a consequence the ineffective and inefficient speed of the students' reading comprehension
