Abstract

Summary The research entitled: "Evaluation of the School Governance Program in the schools of district 96-40 of Mazatenango, Suchitepéquez" was carried out in five mixed urban official schools selected at random by the Educational Supervisor who authorized the investigation. To this end, open interviews were used to students that make up the school government, outstanding students, school leaders and teachers who make up the culture and civic commissions in those schools. Information was gathered about the curricular activities carried out in the schools, oriented to the citizen's education of the students according to the national base curriculum. In addition, it was diagnosed that the students have knowledge of the Political Constitution of the Republic. It was found that twenty percent of schools elect the school government annually according to the Ministry of Education manual; eighty percent do not perform this activity annually but delegate it to the board of directors of the sixth grade of elementary school, so that they serve as student representatives for one year, obviating the steps of the School Government Manual, stipulated by the MINEDUC. The majority of students at the primary level, acquire the knowledge related to citizenship and democracy contained in the CNB Sixty-four percent of teachers indicated that the CNB if it meets the needs that as Guatemalans should know and the other thirty six percent, indicated that it should improve, since in his school it is taught as a theoretical course. In spite of the previous limitations, the Citizen Training in the researched schools fosters in the children the formation of values, civism and democratic coexistence
