Abstract

SUMMARY The process of learning the area of mathematics in the middle level institutes of the municipality of San Pablo Jocopilas, Suchitepéquez The research was carried out in the educational establishments of the basic cycle of the municipality of San Pablo Jocopilas, department of Suchitepéquez. Students from the three grades of the basic cycle were involved, as well as teachers who teach the Mathematics, area to analyze the problem of the learning process of this area of knowledge, characterized by the student's poor academic performance in it. Through direct observations to the students in the classrooms at the time of teaching in that area, the running of a survey aimed at students and teachers who teach the area of mathematics, important information was obtained regarding the research problem. Likewise, bibliographic sources of authors specialized in the subject were reviewed, which obtained theoretical information about the process of learning in the area of mathematics. The research found that there are several factors that cause poor academic performance, among which are: the lack of interest of students to learn mathematics, the little support they receive from their parents in providing them with study materials and guidance in this regard at home, On the other hand, the outdated teachers in terms of methods and techniques of planning, teaching and evaluation of mathematics learning; they have resulted in a deficiency in the student's learning process, which leads to repetition and truancy. RESUMEN El proceso de aprendizaje del área de matemática en los institutos del nivel medio del municipio de San Pablo Jocopilas, Suchitepéquez La investigación se desarrolló en los establecimientos educativos del ciclo básico del municipio de San Pablo Jocopilas, departamento de Suchitepéquez. Se involucraron a estudiantes de los tres grados del ciclo básico, así como docentes que imparten el área de Matemática, para analizar la problemática del proceso de aprendizaje de esta área del conocimiento, caracterizado por el bajo rendimiento académico del estudiante en la misma. Mediante observaciones directas a los estudiantes en las aulas al momento de ser impartidas la docencia de dicha área, el corrimiento de una encuesta dirigida a estudiantes y docentes que imparten el área de matemática, se obtuvo información importante respecto al problema de investigación. Así mismo se revisaron fuentes bibliográficas de autores especializados en el tema, con lo cual se logró obtener información teórica en torno al proceso de aprendizaje del área de las matemáticas. La investigación constató que existen varios factores que provocan el bajo rendimiento académico entre los cuales destacan: el poco interés de los estudiantes por aprender matemática, el escaso apoyo que reciben de sus padres en cuanto a proveerles materiales de estudio y orientación al respecto en casa. Por otro lado, la desactualización de los docentes en materia de métodos y técnicas de planificación, docencia y evaluación de los aprendizajes de matemática; han dado como resultado la deficiencia del proceso de aprendizaje de los estudiantes, lo cual los lleva a la repitencia y ausentismo escolar.
