Abstract

Abstract Upon returning to school, at the National Institute of Basic and Diversified Education in the municipality of Zunilito, department of Suchitepéquez, a radical change has been reflected in students as a consequence of social confinement due to COVID-19, revealing an academic performance that involves psychological elements acquired during social distancing, implying that modern interests are generated in virtual social life. For this reason, this study is initiated to clarify which are the factors that intervene in the academic performance of students and thus, establish ways to eradicate this problem. To carry it out, it was necessary to investigate theoretical concepts with the use of bibliographic sources referring to the factors involved in the teaching-learning process that have been adapted to the return to face-to-face classes; then, surveys were prepared for students, parents and teachers to obtain precise information on the problem; in addition, observation within the research field was essential to be able to compare the responses of the surveys with the behaviors reflected. Therefore, among the main findings, it was found that the psychological and technological factors considerably influence the negative academic performance of students, as a consequence of the consequences that are currently being experienced due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
