Abstract
ABSTRACT The research carried out in relation to the assertive communication between teacher and students of the Institute of Basic Education by the Abraham Lincoln Cooperative of Chicacao Suchitepéquez has a mixed approach, it is descriptive-correlational; that is to say that the quantitative and the qualitative are combined, how the problem of assertive communication is or how it unfolds, measuring two or more variables to establish a statistical relationship between them. To establish this relationship, the survey application was key to show how assertive communication is carried out. A low percentage is reflected in the expression of opinions, feelings, conflict resolution, lack of trust for a communication gap and the misuse of communication channels. In this order of ideas, non-assertive communication can manifest itself in two opposite ways: passivity and aggressiveness. Passivity is characterized by the inability to express thoughts, feelings, and needs clearly and directly, for fear of being rejected or to avoid causing conflict. Aggression, for its part, is characterized by expressing messages in an offensive manner, without respecting the rights of others or considering their points of view.
