Abstract

ABSTRACT A study was carried out on a pig farm technician to evaluate the effects of the partial substitution of maize on the gain of pigs in the fattening stage. The pig groups for the study were chosen at random taking into account characteristics of homogeneity according to: age of 11 weeks, approximate weight of 80 to 135 lb, sex only males, fattening phase and pic species. The different substitutions of cookie residue were, Treatment 1 with 5%, treatment 2 with 10% and treatment 3 with 15%, in which it would be bought with the traditional food used. 40 pigs were used, forming groups of 10 pigs per treatment. The pigs were weighed at the beginning and then 7 days until the end of the experiment. With the gains of weight and feed conversion of the different treatments of porcine, the statistical analysis was carried out. The pigs that had a higher daily weight gain were fed with a 10% substitution (treatment 2) giving a daily weight gain of 1.34 lbs. Pigs fed with 5% (treatment 1) achieved a daily weight gain of 1.19lb while pigs fed with 15% (treatment 3) and traditional food or control group reached 1.31lbs in daily weight gain. Food conversion with the substitution of 10% (treatment 2) was the most efficient with a value of 2.60. The substitution of 5% (treatment 1) presented a feed conversion of 2.93. The substitution of 15% (treatment 3) and the traditional food or control group presented a value of 2.66 and 2.267 afterwards In estimating costs for substitutions, treatment 3 with a substitution of 15% leaves a higher Q1.50 / lb. Utility, followed by the partial budget for treatment 2 with a 10% substitution was Q1.51 / lb, with treatment 1 with the 5% substitution was Q1.52 / lb, and the partial budget of the control group was Q1.53 / lb, being the highest economic cost of the other treatments. Buying the nutritional value of the substitutions and the traditional food or control group obtained a similarity in their results. The moisture content, ash, fat, fiber, carbohydrate and protein are within the range reported by several researchers. Treatments with substitutions of 5% (3.74, 6.31) 10% (4.70, 7.84) and 15% (3.57, 9.95) present low moisture and fiber content. Then the treatments with the 5% substitutions (64.88, 2.75 and 20.42), 10% (57.16, 3.15 and 26.17) and 15% (58.06, 3.05 and 23.14) as well as a high content of carbohydrates, fats and proteins.
