Abstract

ABSTRACT Academic performance is the student's ability to develop an efficient training process with a view to achieving an exit profile in the time stipulated by the study curriculum. Through interviews with teachers and the director of the National Institute of Diversified Education of Mazatenango Suchitepéquez, it was evidenced that teachers have played a fundamental role in accompanying students with low academic performance, providing them with educational guidance, as the institute does not have a specialized professional for this type of support to students during their training process. Teachers take on this responsibility and commitment to advise students by fulfilling the role of "participatory teachers." Strategies to minimize the low academic performance of students by teachers are continuously implemented in the INED of Mazatenango, which has caused the recognition of students towards their mentors, since, thanks to this support, they were able to resume their studies and improve their academic performance. The Educational Guidance as accompaniment is essential during the student life in order to guarantee the effective academic performance of the student, but this requires the services of a specialized professional who discovers and psychopedagogically treats the virtues and potentialities of the young person to acquire the training competencies that allow you to achieve your graduation profile.
